Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What happens in an intake session?
A: During an intake session we discuss the specifics of the counseling relationship, talk about confidentiality and informed consent, and then we simply get to know each other and talk through what brings you to counseling.
Q: Do you work with adolescents?
A: I am happy to provide counseling services to the adolescents (ages 12-17) in our community and work hard to maintain competence with that demographic given the great need we have seen in recent years.
Q: Do you only work with adolescents?
A: I have experience working with people as young as 5 years old to those who are 65. Whatever our age, our need for human connection is the same (though our methods for finding them may evolve over the years). And so I am happy to provide services to anyone who think I may be a good fit for them.
Q: How does your faith and spirituality play into your counseling?
A: I believe that faith and spirituality play an important role in how we navigate our lives (regardless of our faith tradition). They are certainly integral to how I counsel. However, as a professional counselor I am committed to never imposing my worldview on a client. I am dedicated to helping offer such insight and guidance at their level of comfort and initiation. As such, if a client asks to discuss matters of faith in counseling, I am both happy and competent to do so. If, on the other hand, a client does not want to discuss matters of faith then we will of course focus on other things.
Q: Do you offer scholarships for counseling?
A: I offer reduced rate counseling on a limited basis and at my own discretion. You are more than welcome to ask whether there is an opening for such a rate.
Q: Do you take insurance?
A: I am in network with certain insurance plans and can discuss further in our free consultation.
